Portable Rental Subsidies
The Issue
Prior to October 2006 an eligible family lost its provincial rental
subsidy in the event of a move as the subsidy was attached to
the dwelling. As part of the new Provincial Housing Strategy,
introduced in October 2006, this policy was changed to allow
an eligible family to keep the subsidy in the event of a move.
VREB Position
The VREB supports the change by the provincial government to allow
rental subsidies to be attached to the family, rather than to
the dwelling.
